- You have no hot water

- Your water has debris in it
- Your water heater is leaking

Water heaters generally last about 10-12 years when well maintained which could extend that life. You can fix it along the way, but eventually, it will need replacing.
Occasionally, condensation will form at the top of an electric water heater and moisture from condensation isn't a true leak.
Water Heater Leaks at a Glance!
Bottom Leaks
A puddle near the water heater could mean a leaky electric heating element gasket, or it could mean the temperature and pressure relief (also known as the t and p) valve has opened to release extra pressure from the water tank. When there's excess pressure, your tank will expel the water through an overflow pipe. A puddle under the water heater tank could mean your tank is leaking, meaning your tank has worn out, and the only way to repair it is to replace it.
Top Leaks
You're in luck, if the puddle stems from somewhere near the top of your heater and can be fixed by an experienced plumber.
If you have a leak near the top of your water heater, you may have a loose cold or hot outlet pipe, a failed inlet valve or the T&P (Temperature and Release) valve may have failed, which is very easily fixed by a plumber.
Noises
Water heaters are a fairly silent appliance. There should not be any popping, banging, knocking, or hissing noises coming from the water heater.
Strange noises, could indicate a build-up of scale on the heating elements or too much sediment built up in the tank bottom.
A leaking tank will make noise as well. If there is too much pressure inside the tank, your pipes will expand and contract more and make noise.
Water heater noises are usually something harmless but you should still call us today to make sure your water heater is in good shape.
